1 Scope.
This document outlines the cabling requirements for connecting Entel’s Universal Gateway 3.0 to virtually any 3rd party mobile radio.

The following models have been tested by Entel and cable specifications are detailed in 3.1:

  • Motorola DM4400e

  • Hytera MD785i

  • Kenwood NX-700-K

Section 3.2 details the gateway’s electrical interface. This enables dealers to interface to interface the gateway to virtually any other make of mobile radio (no matter the network type).

2 Abbreviations Used.

3 Diagram & Radio Settings.

In order for the system to operate, there is a need to have a physical connection between the gateway and mobile radio which is achieved via an interface cable.
Some accessory socket settings may require programming in the mobile radio, e.g.

  • PTT – IN (Active Low)

  • Talk Detect or COR for Kenwood – OUT (active High)

  • Transmit audio – IN

  • Receive audio – OUT

Note: use “COR” and do not set as “COR or Channel busy” on Kenwood mobiles.

3 Cable Specification.

The gateway has a female D-Sub 9 connector to allow connection to mobile radios. Below are the 3rd party radios and cable specifications the gateway has been tested with so far.

Note 1: Pins 8 & 9 are not connected on the gateway D-Sub 9 connector.
Note 2: Connect Hytera MD785i, MAP26 pins 13 and 14 to ground.
