Entel VPN – How it works:
The VPN server helps to provide a seamless connection to the PoC server when switching between networks, for example when transitioning between a wifi and cellular connection or visa versa. EPoC radios need to maintain a secure connection (SSL) to the EPoC server. This gets interrupted if the network connection between the radio and the local network goes down momentarily or if the IP address of the radio changes, which could happen for example, because of the handover between Wifi APN’s. Normally, without the VPN, any network changes or handovers would cause the radio to disconnect/reconnect, causing an interruption to communication.
With VPN, the network connection is between the DN radio and the Entel VPN server, not between the DN radio and a local network, so the IP address is issued by the VPN server and therefore doesn’t change if the underlying network connection is broken. In this way, the radio does not disconnect and reconnect with the EPOC server when the underlying network changes.
DN WIFI configuration:
Squelch Tight: When connected to a WiFi network, a medium to strong signal level is required to get the best voice quality without dropouts. The ‘squelch tight’ option sets a threshold for the WiFi signal level which is the minimum required to avoid these dropouts. If the signal level drops below this threshold, the radio will switch to a cellular connection (if available) to avoid loss of voice quality. It is recommended to enable ‘squelch tight’ in conjunction with VPN to provide the most seamless transition between WiFi and cellular networks.
The settings is found in the wifi menu as follows:
Main menu/settings/WiFi/squelch tight.
